For lesson two we focused on indifference and faith.
“Persecution is an enemy the Church has met and mastered many times. Indifference could prove to be a far more dangerous foe.” – Brother Andrew
What is indifference?
Definition of Indifference: Lack of interest or concern, unimportance; little or no concern.
We played a clip from Schindler’s List, the Jews are in a train it’s hot, they can’t breathe, and Schindler get the Nazis who are standing around to hose the train. This clip shows the Nazis indifference towards the Jews: http://www.anyclip.com/movies/schindlers-list/water-on-the-trains/
14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. – Revelation 3:14-19
We looked at Brother Andrew’s life, how he came to start Open Doors, a ministry working in over 60 countries to strengthen persecuted Christians.
“Lord if you show me the way, I will follow you.”- Brother Andrew
“Whenever, wherever, however you want me, I’ll go. And I’ll begin this very minute. Lord, as I stand up from this place, and as I take my first step forward, will you consider this is a step toward complete obedience? I’ll call it a step of Yes.” – Brother Andrew ‘God’s smuggler’
We watched this video about Brother Andrew and Open Doors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srncqLLlZ2I
In 1981, Open Doors smuggled one million Bibles into communist China, in one night.
We watched this video about Project Pearl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HTC00FDVYs
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and the in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” – Matthew 13:44-46
We asked how many Bibles do you own, how many are in your house?
The we watched a video of missionaries giving Bibles to Christians in China. They open the suitcase full of Bibles, the Christians rush to the suitcase like a flood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkXDcdMNE-I
Then we watched a testimony from Sarah Liu, who was imprisoned in China, for writing a newspaper for the underground church. I had watched Sarah’s Trail of Blood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDw0EOYfXeY her testimony. I went to one of the Voice of the Martyr’s regional conferences, https://secure.persecution.com/events/?source=WEB she was there, I was able to meet with her. She was full of peace and joy. I bought her book, a thirty day devotional, Sarah’s Journey of Faith, http://www.amazon.com/Sarahs-Journey-Faith-Conversion-A-Thirty-Day/dp/149082619X.
After we watched and discussed Sarah’s testimony we read theses Scriptures:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:1-2
39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. Hebrews 10:39
We closed by watching a video Open Doors USA made using the song The Cost by Rend Collective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaX4Rv02CGk
